Total Time: 10 minutes
Serving Size: 1 toast
Number of Servings: 1–2
Calories & Macros per Serving: Varies based on bread and toppings

Ingredients (Base)

• 1–2 slices bread (your choice)
• 1 can sardines (in water or olive oil)
• ½ avocado or guacamole
• Salt
• Black pepper

Optional Toppings

• Lemon juice
• Red onion (thinly sliced)
• Everything bagel seasoning
• Feta cheese
• Parmesan
• Cherry tomatoes
• Cucumber slices
• Fresh herbs (parsley, cilantro)
• Chili flakes
• Hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Toast the bread.
Toast your bread in a toaster or pan until golden and crisp.
This helps it hold the toppings without getting soggy.

  2. Prepare the avocado.
Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop it into a bowl.
Mash with a fork until smooth or slightly chunky.
Add a pinch of salt and pepper.

  3. Prepare the sardines.
Open the can and drain slightly if needed.
You can leave them whole or mash lightly with a fork.
If you’re new to sardines, breaking them up makes the texture easier.

  4. Assemble the base.
Spread the mashed avocado evenly over the toast.
    Add the sardines on top.

  5. Add toppings.
    Add anything you like:
    • Squeeze of lemon
    • Sliced onion
    • Cheese
    • Seasoning
Keep it simple or build it up.

  6. Serve.
Eat right away while the toast is still crisp.

Tips

• Toast well — soft bread will fall apart.
• Lemon helps balance the richness of the sardines.
• Sardines are high in protein and healthy fats.
• Start simple, then add toppings once you know what you like.
• Great for a quick lunch or high-protein snack.
