Jalapeño Avocado Crema

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: About 8

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado

  • 1–2 jalapeños

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt

  • Juice of 2 limes

  • ½ cup fresh cilantro

  • 1–2 garlic cloves

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • Water, as needed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients.
Cut the avocado in half and remove the pit. Remove the stem from the jalapeños. Leave the seeds in for more heat or remove them for a milder crema.

  2. Add everything to a blender.
Add the avocado, jalapeño, Greek yogurt, lime juice, cilantro, and garlic to a blender or food processor. Season with salt and black pepper.

  3. Blend.
Blend until completely smooth and creamy.

  4. Adjust the consistency.
If the crema is too thick, add water 1 tablespoon at a time and blend again until it reaches your desired consistency.

  5. Taste and serve.
Taste and add more salt or lime juice if needed. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to use.

Tips

  • Adjust the heat: Start with 1/2 jalapeño and add more if you want it spicier.

  • Make it thinner: Add a little water at a time for a sauce you can easily drizzle over tacos.

  • Make it thicker: Skip the water for a thicker crema that works well as a dip.

  • Storage: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2–3 days.

  • Serving Ideas: This crema is perfect with tacos, burrito bowls, grilled chicken or steak, roasted vegetables, eggs, sweet potatoes, nachos, and quesadillas. You can also thin it with a little water to use as a salad dressing or keep it thick and serve as a dip with vegetables or tortilla chips.
