Ingredients

  • 1 green or yellow plantain

  • 1 tsp avocado oil

  • Salt, to taste

  • (Optional: water + salt soak)

Instructions

  1. Prep the plantain:
    – Cut off both ends.
    – Make a shallow slice along the peel and remove the skin.
    – Slice into thin rounds (about ⅛ inch thick) or cut lengthwise into strips.

  2. (Optional soak):
    – You can soak the slices in salted water for 5–10 minutes to reduce starch and help with crisping, but this step is optional.
    – If soaking, drain and pat dry before air frying.

  3. Season:
    – Toss the plantain slices with avocado oil and a pinch of salt.

  4. Air fry:
    – Place in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
    – Air fry at 375°F for 10–12 minutes.
No need to flip. Cook until edges are golden and crispy.

  5. Cool completely:
    – Let the chips cool fully on a wire rack or plate before eating and/or storing.
    – They’ll crisp up more as they cool.

Tips

  • Use green plantains for a crispier, savory chip. Yellow plantains are softer and slightly sweet.

  • Cooling is key — they finish crisping as they cool.

  • Eat fresh or re-crisp for 1–2 minutes in the air fryer if storing.
