Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef or turkey

  • 2 large sweet potatoes

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced (for caramelized onions)

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, cheese, pickles, avocado, bacon, mushrooms

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set the oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. Prepare Sweet Potato Buns: Peel sweet potatoes and slice into ½-inch thick rounds. Toss with ½ tbsp olive oil, salt, and pepper.

  3. Bake the Sweet Potatoes: Arrange the slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway until golden and tender.

  4. Caramelize the Onions: While the sweet potatoes bake, heat ½ tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until soft and golden. Set aside.

  5. Form the Patties: Divide the ground beef or turkey into four equal portions and shape into patties. Season with salt, pepper, and preferred spices.

  6. Cook the Patties: Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook for 4-5 minutes per side until fully cooked. If using cheese, place it on top during the last minute to melt.

  7. Assemble the Burgers: Place a sweet potato round on a plate, top with a burger patty, caramelized onions, and any additional toppings. Finish with another sweet potato round as the top "bun."

  8. Serve & Enjoy: Serve immediately and enjoy a bunless, flavorful burger alternative!

Tips:

  • Even Cooking: Slice sweet potatoes uniformly for even baking.

  • Flavor Boost: Season patties with garlic powder, onion powder, or your favorite spice blend.

  • Cooking Methods: Use a grill, skillet, or oven—whatever works best for you.

  • Topping Ideas: Try avocado, crispy bacon, sautéed mushrooms, or caramelized onions for added variety.
